More than likely. You could just do the inside of the shelves and it might be a little less startling. Or maybe not. In our family room, I had the insides of the built-in bookcases painted a deep coral to set off the aqua/turquoise/green art pottery. The rest of the wall, including the fireplace, is white. I do believe that is the only time the Guy considered questioning my sanity when it came to colour choices in the house. LOL. But it does a great job of showcasing the pottery! We are not "Designed to Sell".
